ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The York College baseball team ripped 20 hits off of Elizabethtown to defeat the Blue Jays 14-5 on the road in non-conference action on Monday. Christian Bilan, Zach Hossler and Grant Oberholtzer each had four hits to lead the Spartans, who have won four of their last six.

Records: York 7-6, Elizabethtown 3-7
Score: York 14, Elizabethtown 5
Hits: York 20, Elizabethtown 10
Errors: York 1, Elizabethtown 1
Left on Base: York 9, Elizabethtown 9

How it Happened

• The Spartans struck first in the top of the first inning, starting with a single from Zach Hossler. Seth Brosius singled, moving Hossler to second, and they both scored when Christian Bilan ripped a two-RBI triple to right center. Bilan scored when Jack Barry hit a ground ball to second. York scored three runs on four hits in the first inning, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. The Green and White added another run to its lead in the top of the second when Hossler singled to left field, scoring Grant Oberholtzer, who singled through the left side with two outs.

• In the bottom half of the second, though, the Blue Jays scored four runs on six hits, leveling the score at 4-4. All six hits were singles, though, limiting some of the damage as Elizabethtown left an additional two runners on base.

• Both teams were held hitless in the third, but York managed two runs in the fourth on a fielding error, and then another run in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead. In the eighth, however, the Spartans blew the game open. Bailey Doan led off with a double to left center, and he was able to reach third after Oberholtzer laid down a bunt for a single. With two on, and still nobody out, Hossler singled through the left side, scoring Doan and moving Oberholtzer to third. Hossler moved to second on the throw, Brosius was walked to load the bases and then Bilan came through again, blasting a double to right field scoring two. Barry pushed Brosius home and Bilan to third with a single. Then, for the fifth run of the game, Bilan scored on a ground ball from Collin Crowell. At the end of the eighth, York had built a 12-4 advantage, all but sealing the game. For insurance, it added two more in the ninth, as Doan and Oberholtzer crossed the plate, completing a dominant 14-5 victory.
