How It Happened

• York would take advantage of a Lion error which would be the theme of the game for the Spartans on the offensive end. Grant Oberholtzer led off the game with a single through the left side. He would then steal second with two outs in the inning and come all the way around to score on a throwing error to give York the early 1-0 lead. The Spartans would be held to just three hits through the first eight innings.

• The Lions were also quiet offensively thanks to strong pitching from Bobby Kuehn, but PSU would finally strike taking advantage of a hit-by-pitch to lead off the bottom of the fifth followed by a two-run homer to left-center from Chase Smith to Give PSU the 2-1 lead. The Lions would add another run in the bottom of the seventh capitalizing on one of the four Spartan miscues in the field.

• The Spartan offense would finally come alive in the ninth inning taking advantage of more Lion errors scoring five runs on just three hits with four of their runs being unearned. York would load the bases on a walk and back-to-back singles to load the bases. The Spartans would get the first run back on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Southern to bring in Brandon White.

• After a fielder's choice to gun down a Spartan at home, the Spartans would score four runs with two outs. Justin Kilpatrick would bring in two runs on a Lion throwing error and Austin Denlinger would single in two more Spartans to grab some much needed insurance and give York the 6-3 lead headed to the bottom of the ninth.

• The Lions would make things interesting scoring one run and bringing the tying run to the plate but Conor Miller would strike out Jackson Struve to pick up the save and extend York's winning streak to nine games.

How It Happened

• York would strike first again scoring a pair of runs on double to left-center field off the bat of Rob Acierno in the bottom of the first inning. A solo homerun by Luke Turner would add another run in the top of the fourth to extend the Spartan lead to three.

• The Spartans would add runs in the eighth and ninth innings on wild pitches and that would be more than enough as Will Grega was masterful on the bump allowing just a single hit that came on an infield single in the third inning while striking out 13 and walking none en route to his complete game shutout. The Spartans topped PSU 5-0 and have now won ten straight games.
