Brewer’s Hat Trick lifts Spartans 3-1 Over Stevenson

YORK, Pa. – Junior Kailey Brewer (Hartly, Del./Smyrna) scored a hat trick to help the York College women's field hockey team win a 3-1 non conference matchup against Stevenson Thursday afternoon.

With the win the Spartans improve to 6-4 overall and Stevenson falls to 6-7.

Brewer's hat trick was the first of her career and broke her single-game high record that previously stood at two goals.

The Spartans set the pace very early on in the game. York's offense was extremely explosive and got off five shots in the first two minutes. The Green and White would continue firing shots on the Stevenson goalkeeper but would not be able to finish on any opportunities in the first half.

Stevenson would be the first team to get on the board. Senior Danielle Gaitings (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) would come up with a defensive save, but the Mustang's Amy Tamarana would tip the ball in the goal off of Gaitings stick at 26:22.

Coming out in the second half the Spartans were determined to take the lead. York would once again continue to dominate in the offensive circle. At one point the Mustang goalkeeper Katie Cavanaugh came way out to the top of the circle. Madi Wilt (Harwood, Md./Kent Island) took a shot that was deflected by Cavanaugh and Brewer came up with the rebound and fired a shot into an open cage at 53:33.

Only a few minutes later Brewer would score her second goal at 57:44. This time senior Ashton Burk (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) took a shot that Brewer was able to knock in after a deflection off of the goalies pads.

The third and final goal of the game for the Spartans capped off Brewer's hat trick. Once again Burk was credited with the assist after she crossed the ball in front of the cage and Brewer was on the right post to tap it in with only 3:36 left in regulation.

York finished the game with an extreme 42-14 advantage in shots and 21-7 advantage in shots on goal. Penalty corners were closer with York having a smaller 18-12 advantage.

Freshman goalkeeper Abby Baker (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) played another great game in goal and recorded four saves. For Stevenson Cavanaugh made a whopping 17 total saves.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday at 2:00 pm with another home game against # 19 Lynchburg.
