How It Happened

• The game got off to slow start with both offenses struggling to find their footing. The Spartans took a 12-10 lead when Jason Bady had back-to-back dunks, the second a beautiful alley-oop from Jared Wagner. After the Lions got a bucket to tie the game, Zach Novick hit consecutive threes to put York up a half-high six points. The Lions came back and eventually tied the game at 22 with 6:57 left in the opening half.

• After Harrisburg took a brief lead, York ended the half on an 8-1 run to take a 32-27 lead to the intermission. Both teams struggled from the field as Harrisburg shot 40.7% in the opening 20 minutes while York shot a chilly 38.7% in the half. The difference in the half was York outscoring Harrisburg 11-2 in points off turnovers as the Spartans forced eight Lion miscues while the Green and White committed just four turnovers.

• Senior Mike Frauenheim got the Spartans off to a good start in the second half as he converted a pair of lay-ups on York's first two possessions to put York up nine. The Spartans maintained the lead through the opening ten minutes of the second half but would not be able to put away the pesky Lion squad. After a Wagner triple with 10:52 left in the game, the Lions got a lay-up from Chris Bing and a Donyae Baylor-Carroll three to take their first lead of the second half. The Spartans responded with a 12-4 run highlighted by three pointers from Joey Polczynski and Frauenheim as the Green and White took a 59-52 lead with 6:28 left in the game.

• Baylor-Carroll answered with a three to cut York's lead to four but the Green and White used the next five minutes to push the lead to 13 before settling for the 12-point victory. The Spartan defense limited Harrisburg to four points over the final six minutes of the game. The margin could have been larger but the Spartans have an uncharacteristically cold night from the line going just 7-of-15 from the stripe in the second half.

Game Notes:

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday night but the Lions were unable to make the trip due to their campus being closed … the Spartans are 12-5 against the Lions as CAC opponents while York is 20-5 overall against Harrisburg … York has won four straight in the series … the meeting was the final regular season game between the two schools as CAC opponents as the Lions are leaving the CAC at the end of the academic year to head back to the NEAC (Northeast Athletic Conference) … the Spartans improve 9-1 at Wolf Gymnasium and 5-0 at home in conference play … York's three game win streak is their second of the year and one short of their season-high four game streak from January 5 through January 16 … York got outrebounded 37-29 in the game but that was huge improvement from the first meeting when the Lions held a 48-24 edge on the glass … the Spartans committed just nine turnovers and that's the fourth time this year they have limited their miscues to single digits … York's 13 steals marks the ninth time this year they have reached double figures in steals … York is second in the CAC as they are averaging 9.1 steals per game … junior Joey Polczynski led the Spartans in scoring for the third time this year as he has tallied double figures in nine games this year … junior Jared Wagner recorded a career-high six steals in the win as he is now three steals away from tying Jason Saurbaugh (190 steals) for second place on the all-time steals list in York history … Wagner now has a conference leading 58 steals for the year … senior Jason Bady had a career-high three dunks in the win including an impressive drive and flush in traffic with 5:17 left in regulation.
