How It Happened
• The game got off to slow start with both offenses struggling to find their footing. The Spartans took a 12-10 lead when Jason Bady had back-to-back dunks, the second a beautiful alley-oop from Jared Wagner. After the Lions got a bucket to tie the game, Zach Novick hit consecutive threes to put York up a half-high six points. The Lions came back and eventually tied the game at 22 with 6:57 left in the opening half.
• After Harrisburg took a brief lead, York ended the half on an 8-1 run to take a 32-27 lead to the intermission. Both teams struggled from the field as Harrisburg shot 40.7% in the opening 20 minutes while York shot a chilly 38.7% in the half. The difference in the half was York outscoring Harrisburg 11-2 in points off turnovers as the Spartans forced eight Lion miscues while the Green and White committed just four turnovers.
• Senior Mike Frauenheim got the Spartans off to a good start in the second half as he converted a pair of lay-ups on York's first two possessions to put York up nine. The Spartans maintained the lead through the opening ten minutes of the second half but would not be able to put away the pesky Lion squad. After a Wagner triple with 10:52 left in the game, the Lions got a lay-up from Chris Bing and a Donyae Baylor-Carroll three to take their first lead of the second half. The Spartans responded with a 12-4 run highlighted by three pointers from Joey Polczynski and Frauenheim as the Green and White took a 59-52 lead with 6:28 left in the game.
• Baylor-Carroll answered with a three to cut York's lead to four but the Green and White used the next five minutes to push the lead to 13 before settling for the 12-point victory. The Spartan defense limited Harrisburg to four points over the final six minutes of the game. The margin could have been larger but the Spartans have an uncharacteristically cold night from the line going just 7-of-15 from the stripe in the second half.
