YORK, PA – For the fourth time in school history and for the third straight year, the York College men's lacrosse team will be playing in the NCAA Tournament as the field was announced on Sunday evening. The Spartans will host Western New England University on Wednesday, May 9 at Kinsley Field in a second round contest.
The Spartans have qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 with all four years featuring at least one home game for the Green and White. The Spartans earned their way into the tournament with a record of 17-2 after winning the Capital Athletic Conference regular season championship with a mark of 8-0.
The Spartans are very familiar with a number of teams in the tournament as they played nine games against 2018 NCAA Tournament participants. York is 7-2 in games against tournament teams this season.
The Spartans were moved to the traditionally northern bracket as they have faced just one of the 17 other teams on their half of the bracket. The lone game came against Stevenson in the second game of the Mustang Classic, a game the Spartans won 20-7. They would not be able to meet Stevenson until the Final Four as the Mustangs are on the lower portion of the bracket, opposite the Green and White.
The winner of Wednesday's game will face the winner of Amherst and Keene State in Amherst. The location of the third round game will be determined by Wednesday's results.
Spartan head coach Brandon Childs likes the draw for his squad.
"I really like that we are among so many teams that we have never faced before," said Childs. "We have faced so many tough NCAA Tournament teams this year, it's nice to get to see some teams that haven't seen us and teams we haven't seen. I think it's exciting and we are ready to get back to work and prepare for Wednesday."
The official game time and ticket information will be announced on Monday afternoon. Please check back at www.ycpspartans.com for all the most up-to-date tournament information.
