MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College men's tennis team notched their first Capital Athletic Conference win of the year with a 7-2 victory over Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday in Middletown.
The Spartans improve to 7-4 overall and to 1-1 in the conference play. The Lions are now 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The Green and White jumped out to a lead early as York swept the three doubles matches. York's first doubles tandem of Ben Sentz and Lukas Olson earned an 8-5 win in their match against Sachin Venkatesh and Isaac George. Sentz and Olson improve to improve to 6-1 when teamed together in doubles play. Tyler Richard and Justin Rose edged Hyun Jun Kwon and Austin Stehman 8-6 in the second doubles match. Richard and Rose have been outstanding in doubles play as they lead the squad in doubles wins with their mark of 7-1. Joel Hess and Josiah Forry concluded the doubles sweep with an 8-2 third doubles win. The match was the first time Hess and Forry have played together in doubles play this year.
Sentz kicked off singles play with a 6-2, 7-5 first singles win over Venkatesh. Sentz returned to the lineup after missing the last three matches due to an injury. He is now 7-1 in singles play for the Green and White. The Lions earned their two wins for the match with victories in the second and third singles matches. York closed out the match with wins at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles. Forry earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at fourth singles while Richard rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 fifth singles victory. Rose closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 sixth singles win.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday when they travel to Salisbury to face the Sea Gulls in a CAC contest. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
