Bears Edge Spartans in Non-Conference Match on Wednesday

YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Ursinus College Wednesday afternoon in York. The Spartans have now lost four straight including the last two by identical 5-4 scores.

The Bears improve to 6-7 overall while the Spartans fall to 7-8 for the year.

The Spartans got off to a good start in taking two of the three doubles matches. Ben Sentz and Lukas Olson registered a tight 8-6 second doubles win for the Green and White. Tyler Richard and Justin Rose recorded an 8-4 third doubles win as York took a 2-1 lead to the six singles matches.

The Bears opened singles play with wins at fifth singles, first singles, third singles and fourth singles to clinch the match. The Spartans got late wins from Richard in the sixth singles match and Sam Innerst in the second singles match. Richard earned a 7-5, 6-1 win in his match against Kyle Bookman. Innerst outlasted Connor DeFaber-Schumacher 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 in the second singles match.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday as they host Southern Virginia University in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The match is slated for a 2:00 pm start at the Spartan Tennis Centre.
