YORK, Pa. – The York College softball team surrendered a pair of losses to Mary Washington in CAC doubleheader action on Wednesday afternoon from Spartan Stadium by scores of 4-0 and 3-0.

In game one, the Spartans (8-14, 0-4 CAC) were unable to get a run across the plate and did not record a hit in the contest until the fifth inning. Jena Ruby (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) recorded the lone hit in the game and broke up the no hitter with a double to right center.

The Eagles (9-6, 4-0) clung to a slim 1-0 lead through four innings until breaking their lead open in the top of the fifth. UMW tallied three runs on one hit and had four runners reach base while the Spartans committed four errors in the inning.

In the nightcap, the Spartans suffered a similar fate to game one as they could not muster up a run, but improved their hit total to six, compared to just the one they posted in the first game. Sophomore Natalie Fritz (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) led York with two hits in the game as she went 2-for-4 with a double.

Mary Washington also struggled to produce much offensive production, but managed to score three runs on six hits. Bireet Chitty led the Eagles in game two with three hits as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Rachel Watts earned the win and improves to 2-0 as she tossed a five-inning shutout, allowing six hits with three strikeouts and zero walks.
