Women's Tennis Opens CAC Play with Win at St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's tennis squad opened up the Capital Athletic Conference portion of their 2018 schedule with a 6-3 win over St. Mary's College in St. Mary's City, Maryland on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the league while the Seahawks fall to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

First Singles: Katie Wagner def. Melissa Barall 5-7, 6-3, 6-1

Second Singles: Rachel Wagner def. Sophia Gary 6-1, 6-2

Third Singles: Maisie Supp def. Raziela Manangan 6-2, 6-3

Fourth Singles: Gina Liguori def. Alden Grosh 6-3, 6-3

First Doubles: Katie Wagner/Maisie Supp def. Melissa Barall/Sophia Gary 8-4

Second Doubles: Gina Liguori/Rachel Wagner def. Chelsea English/Raziela Manangan 8-5


Match Notes:

York has won three straight against the Seahawks … the Spartans snapped their two game losing streak … it was the first match for the Spartans since March 2, a span of three weeks … York is 6-0 when Katie Wagner and Rachel Wagner win their singles matches … Rachel Wagner leads the Spartans with a record of 7-2 at second singles … Katie Wagner is 6-3 at first singles while Maisie Supp is 6-2 at third singles and Hannah Shinsky is 6-2 overall with a 1-0 record at fifth singles and a 5-2 mark at sixth singles … Maisie Supp and Katie Wagner are 7-2 at first doubles while Gina Liguori and Rachel Wagner are 7-2 at second doubles.

York returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia to face the University of Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
