Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss of 2019

TOWSON, MD – The Goucher College Gopher women's tennis team snapped York College's four game win streak with a 6-3 non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon in Towson, Maryland.

The Spartans fall to 4-1 with the loss while the Gophers improve to 2-2.

The Spartans fell down early as the Gophers swept the three doubles points. The Gophers won the first and second doubles by identical 8-2 scores while Goucher won the third match 8-3.

The Gophers pushed the lead to 4-0 in the second singles match as Mandile Mpofu downed Gina Liguori 6-2, 6-2. Anais Gill outlasted Michaela Sentz 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in the first singles match as the Gopher lead grew to 5-0. Kyoko Kinoshita earned Goucher's next win as she downed Lauren Ostermann 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.

The Spartans swept the final three matches as Chloe Doyle got the Spartans on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 sixth singles win over Ali Gorson-Morrow. Hannah Shinsky notched a 5-7, 6-1, 10-4 fourth singles win over Katie Marzerka. Maisie Supp finished out the match with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 third singles win for the Green and White.

The Spartans return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Catholic University in their final home match of the fall. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
