Split Squad Action; Spartans Compete at Duke and Goucher on Saturday

DURHAM, N.C. – Saturday saw the York College women's track & field squad participate in split-squad action. A contingent of Spartans competed at the 2012 Duke Invitational, a primarily Division I meet, while the Green and White also competed at the Goucher Classic at Goucher College.

Laura Rowlands, the reigning Capital Athletic Conference champion in the outdoor long jump, posted an excellent 5.15-meter leap in the long jump at the Duke Invitational. Rowlands, who finished ninth overall in the long jump, also competed in the high jump where she snagged the 12th spot. Registering a 1.58-meter height, Rowlands snagged her third top-15 finish of the meet, having posted an 11th-place mark in Friday's triple jump.

In the 800 meters, senior Mandy Parshall registered a 2:30.33 time and Nicole Danielewicz put forth a solid effort running the developmental 800 meters while Deborah Fidele competed well in the 100-meter dash.

At the Goucher Classic, the Spartans finished 10th out of the 15 teams in attendance, registering 22.5 points.

Brittany DeManda turned in a strong finish in the javelin as she took third place Saturday. DeManda recorded a 34.81-meter (114' 2") launch in the event.

Fellow throwers Ashley Menniti and Katie Shinn each recorded top-ten performances in the hammer, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Menniti, a Spartan rookie, tossed the hammer 37.27 meters (122' 3") while Shinn posted a 36.89-meter (121' 0") distance. Menniti also competed in the shot put where she notched a 12th-place 9.80-meter (32' 2") toss.

Ashley Razzano tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 2.60 meters (8' 6.25") while Dana Mangano competed in the long jump.
