NORTHAMPTON, PA – The Spartan women's cross country squad put together a strong showing at the 2018 Moravian & Cedar Crest Cross Country Invitational on Friday evening at Bicentennial Park in Northampton, PA.
The Spartans finished second to Moravian but a mere point as the Greyhounds captured the team title, 28-29. York placed eight runners in the top 12.
Top Spartan Performers
• York had four runners in the top seven of the event led by senior Jess DelViscio as she placed third with a time of 24:35.2. DelViscio finished 13 seconds behind winner Katie Mayer of Moravian. Freshman Jordan Haberstroh was York's next finisher as she placed fourth with a time of 24:36.2. Fellow freshman Taylor Barkdoll was the next Spartan to cross the line as she finished sixth with a time of 24:39.7. Senior Alayna De Bruin was York's fourth finisher as she placed seventh with a time of 24:42.3.
• The Spartans had another pack of four finish nine through 12. Freshman Sarah Nicoletti was ninth with a time of 25:07.7. She was followed by Emma Rogers in tenth with a finish of 25:08.4, Elle Meyer in 11th with a time of 25:17.4 and Abigail Sykes in 12th with a time of 25:19.6.
• York had another four runners finish inside the top 25. Amber Strouse crossed the line in a time of 25:52.4, good for a 17th place finish. Rachel Banchiere, Nicole Wasserleben, and Teagan Jones finished 23rd, 24th and 25th respectively for the Green and White.

"The women stayed focused on working together in the first 6K event of the year," said Spartan head coach Stephen LoBianco. "The women stuck to the race plan and continued to move up the entire race. They fought hard for second and to place eight runners in the top 12 was something I was happy to see. I like how our team is progressing."
The Spartans return to action in eight days when they head to the Lock Haven Invitational hosted by Lock Haven University. The action is slated for a 10:30 am start.
